Talking about our last collection, Yann Girard recently told me to be aware of technology push. You have to be a business casper from the TUM for having such insights in our urban culture context. Dude, technology is far from being my core competence; perhaps I do have some knowledge about ayo technology. That’s it. This here is not a technology push, shouldn’t be a push. Nothing should be a push in a world of thinking humans. Call it thoughts pull.
Nächster Halt: Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof. Yes, on the road, again. This time with Morel Dagba, going to meet Nando Nkrumah; some talks on some topics on the table. Allow me to take you for a small trip through our journey. I think that we started on the right side of our metro map: STRUGGLE. You know, that’s could be what happens when you stop being a spectator of your own life, when you stop talking the talk or (to adapt the Hustle & Flow’s script to our modern day language) posting the post or twitting the twit. Short, struggle might be when you wake up in the morning, and the first thing coming to your mind is: Action! From Struggle, we first have to go back to DESTINY. Is there something or someshit like destiny? I don’t know, that’s why we don’t spend a lot of time there and move directly to FRIENDSHIP. No words needed on this one, if you need some, you might have some serious problems. Sorry…

Being at Friendship, we have to go our way back to DÉSIR. The body is one matter, the soul is another. Epicure versus Aristotle. Are we going through all these stories for the body or for the soul? Die Gretchenfrage. Having answered this question (or not), we might go straight to LOYALTY. But mom, the streets and even my professors at grad school taught me that life is full of U-turns and loop ways. So, I go my way through COURAGE and ART before reaching Loyalty. Loyalty is, besides AFFECTION, RECTITUDE and CREATIVITY, one of the central stations in our journey. You can be loyal or disloyal to a ton of things in this world, no enumeration needed. The most important, I guess, is to remain loyal to oneself. But then you get the Gretchenfrage, again. Should one remain loyal to the body or to the soul? Being at Loyalty, we can go basically to any destination. It’s tempting to move forward to Affection and then try to get to DREAM. But no way, no connecting lines to Dream. Dreams, they are present, we can think of them, we can feel them. Sometimes you can even live them, in dreams. Or not…
Battery warning, 5% left. It’s ok since we are almost at destination. The towers of Cologne’s Cathedral are just in front of us. Nächster Halt: Köln Hauptbahnhof. So, let’s see if we can find the way to our dreams in Cologne.

I’m a hustler, so please let me do my thing.

Here we go: Recently a friend of mine had to leave the country because the immigration authority said he was taking too long to finish his studies at the university. No enough problems, he got arrested during a transit in Poland on his way back to his home country in Central Asia. First you got kicked out of the country where you spent the last seven years of your life, and on your way back home you got arrested because you don’t have a valid visa for the country you were sentenced to leave. Shit does happen, really. This might sound strange for some of you. But hey dude, German immigration policies are challenging, even for the sharpest minds. So right now a substantial share of the German politicians and basically the whole business sector are asking for immigrant-friendlier laws whereas our Angie “Teflon” Merkel recently said during an important speech: “Multikulti ist absolut gescheitert”. Read, a melting pot society absolutely doesn’t fit to Germany.

Fortunately, the immigrant youth here want to be part of the discussion. They have something to tell and right now, it looks like the Ruhrpott’s rap artist FARD is doing that for them. If you want to know what they talk about, what is going on inside the head of a frustrated German youth, just check “Alter Ego”, FARD’s album which is already being promoted by four music videos, with more videos to come. Perhaps the first music album which you can also consider as a series of short films? If you come across 45, know it’s no longer Scientific, it’s Illegal…

DJ John Beez (North California) is constantly pushing the limits of the classic 2 turntables and a mixer-setup. His newest invention is called the “fretless fader”. Basically, it allows the DJ to pitch-shift his scratches.

Through the use of built-in sliding MIDI control, the Fretless Fader allows DJ’s to scratch, "cut, and change notes through 2 octaves without taking your hands away from the vinyl and fader."

Fretless Fader creator JohnBeez gives an update and explanation of his diabolical hardware creation. In addition to showing off the major/minor switch, he shows how the Fretless Fader has the unique ability to move both up and down an octave.

It’s May homies, May 20^this just ahead! Why the kcuf May 20^th?? The independence day of East Timor? The National Day in Cameroon? Well, no disrespect to the folks there, but May 20^th is also the birthday of big homie and on May 20^th she finally starts her highly anticipated trip to Thailand, yeah all of that is a kind of important, no doubt. But for us and for you, if you still on some real rap tunes, the 20^th of May is the start of Redman’s Tour in Good Old Germany. It’s Redman, it’s the Funky Doc, and it’s the Def Squad! If you ready for the blowing of your mind, pick up your ticket, pick it up! And get prepared for some funkorama; In case you can’t get in the sold-out live hall of your city, just go wild like Red himself. However, I’m afraid it won’t help. It’s like that, you better pick up your ticket.

I got like three meetings today, but this morning I just put my mobile on flight modus. Unprofessional uh?! Perhaps so, but I am sure all the people I was supposed to meet today could reach one of my partners. Now, it’s already almost 10 pm and I still don’t know how the day went on but it’s all cool, all good. Hell yeah, you can afford acting like that when you have only the bests of their art in your team, ah ouais, que des numéros 10 dans ma team, pas juste pour la frime. Sometimes, when I find myself between two hustler steps looking through the mirror, I catch myself looking at me with the same perplexity as Dame Dash last day when I handed him a cap and he asking me “your line?” Irrelevant question for me right now. But what’s supposed to be the relevant question? This last one if definitely the relevant question, but still no relevant answer… Damned pursuit of happiness! I might ask Kid Cudi when he will visit us in Cologne at the end of the summer what dreams, cold sweats, paths full of sorrow and trials of tomorrow are all about.

For the moment, I am just happy that the election in our home state, North Rhine-Westphalia, yeah, the wild wild west, will be over in a few hours. So, our politicians will hopefully start working again on real issues and not just politrikkking us all around for some percentage points to serve their Rot-Rot-Schwarz-Gelb-Grün coalition mathematics. If you can stand some politically engaged hiphop, don’t miss Dead Prez on the 1^st of July in Cologne, it’s revolutionary but still gangsta, still bigger than hiphop, so stay the hell out of the kitchen if you can’t stand the heat! Watch out for the Urban Legends Beatnuts Tour, 3 dates in Germany (Cologne, Munich and Eislingen). Also upcoming are shows by The Game and Ludacris -turn on the radio, it’s rap!-. You better believe it, simply murder this summer. And it’s still nothing.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot it, the highly anticipated Mos Def’show in Cologne, postponed to June… As Robel put it:”Blöder Vulkan auf Island”; nothing more to add to his comment. Sorry for you if you don’t understand German. I have nothing to add on that issue. It’s still ecstatic, supermagic, bright light from a distant star…

The sun is shining, the summer is coming, all the festivals too, and also the streetball tournaments (like Germany’s Reality Check, Quai 54, BBall-Day or the Ball Me If You Can series). Starting from this summer, you will see our affiliate H1PNUZ Culture or H1PNUZ Movement, anyway, just for you to know that H1PNUZ whatever is on our side, the good one. So, give the movement some momentum and show some love.

I just had a look at the (German) Musicload Hip-Hop charts, there you get guys like Stromae and Culcha Candela running the list. Please dudes, we have to keep the culture open-minded, but whats that??!!

To gather my thoughts and decide if to post them or not, I take a gander through the glass wall of my room. On the right, just on the other side of the river, there is that mass of concrete and glass. Still lying on my bed, I can watch at what they call the “Shimao Dasha” or the “Mordor Tower” as my dude Ralf named it. The building is supposed to be the 22nd highest in the world, however they cheated! Yep, with two antennas which I will estimate at at least 50 meter height each. But hell y’all, they cheated, so what?! We are in the city of the vice aka “la pute de l’Orient”. Everybody is cheating, those who are not are being cheated. Enjoy!

Last month Urban Legends presented Talib Kweli with an exclusive show in Cologne, we told you beforehand it should be a nice one, actually it was! Check the vimeo link to judge by yourself. Since we were a kind of working during the show, I didn’t really realize how it was going on; but I did notice when Talib paid tribute to my dude Cut Killer and some of the most acclaimed producers our culture (R.I.P J Dilla!) For those of you who enjoyed the black star collabo, Mos Def is certainly not that far away when we talk about Talib Kweli, yes you are right! So, after Talib Kweli, Urban Legends is featuring Mos Def, 23rd of April in Cologne, Essigfabrik. But before that, you are blessed (at least with some good beats) if your hood is on the German northside, then you have the opportunity to experience one of the greatest MCs performing some classic joints: Method Man, on the 22nd of March in Hamburg. If Mr. Tical is not enough, if you are really down with the Wu Tang Clan, then you have to be in Cologne City for Inspectah Deck, 17th of April.

I heard people saying that we are too oldschool, that our artists are too conscious, too deep, too real. Maaayne! Support or front, but please don’t talk to talk. But to be honest, at the end we don’t really care if we are not “unconscious” (!) or lil-this or young-that enough, cuz’ this shit we up to is bigger than hip-hop!

Das von Max gepostete Video (siehe unten, more real reap) ist übrigens der Hammer, habe ich endlich mal geschaut. Weiß nicht, wie er es gefunden hat, aber irgendwie glaube ich nicht, dass Max die Musik privat hört :-). Aber trotzdem reinhören, lohnt sich, versprochen. Seit meinem letzten Beitrag hier ist viel Zeit vergangen, vieles passiert. Parties habe ich auch natürlich in jeder Menge mitgenommen, besonders die neue Party-Reihe Beats, Soul & Glamour im Loom Club, Köln möchte ich erwähnen. Endlich mal die sogenannte „Black Music“ zu einem vernünftigen Publikum, diese Zusammensetzung ist höchst selten anzutreffen. Willste widersprechen? Dann haste keine Ahnung! Klingt das gerade schlechte verdeckte Werbung? Normal, die Macher von Beats, Soul & Glamour sind meine Homies, weißte Bescheid!

Lange nichts hier geschrieben. Wir waren aber nicht im Sommerschlaf oder dergleichen. Viel unterwegs gewesen, en mode street halt. Der August wird ein Bisschen ruhig, außer dem Hip Hop Kemp, wir hoffen natürlich wieder viele Gleichgesinnten dort zu treffen. Es wird sicherlich ein Fest.
Das T-Shirt More Real Rap macht weiter seinen Weg. Danke an Alle, die diese Aktion unterstützen. Sorry, dass die Teile ausverkauft sind, aber damit hatten wir nicht gerechnet. … bis zur Europawahl! Lange war es hier ruhig. Es liegt aber nicht daran, dass wir unterwegs waren und Wahlkampagne für den Einzug ins Europaparlament gemacht haben. Nö, noch überlassen wir es den Dirnen und Buben mit ihren "Wir" und "Wums"-Sprüchen :-).
Kurz vorweg, wir sind schwer dran alles zu machen, um den Shop wieder aufzufüllen. Aus unterschiedlichen Gründen müssen wir noch auf das eine oder andere warten, aber laufen tut alles. Dennoch wird was Neues von UL spätestens am Samstag, 04.07.2009 zu Verkauf stehen. Jep, die Insider haben es schon begriffen, es geht um Rheinkultur. In Zusammenarbeit mit rheinhiphop und Out4Fame werden wir hochqualitative Souvenirs für den Aufenthalt in der Bonner Rheinaue parat haben.

Aber trotzdem nicht vergessen, wählen gehen! Denn Wählen ist eine Pflicht, genau so wie stilvolles und nächstenliebegefülltes Auftreten.

Die Mannschaft aus Hamburg hat gestern gegen die Pariser Jungs das Endspiel des Internationalen B-Ball-Day gewonnen. Damit geht erneut der Pokal in den Norden, nach dem Sieg von Bremen letztes Jahr. Vielen Dank und ein dickes Big Up an all, die im Hannoveraner Unisportzentrum waren, besonders an die Spieler der verschiedenen Teams aus München, Mannheim, Köln (nächstes Jahr nehmen wir den Pokal mit zum Rhein ;-), Paderborn (cool, dass ihr es doch noch geschafft habt!), Minden, Hannover, Bremen (ihr habt euren Titel sehr gut verteidigt!!), Aachen (waddup Docta!), Lemgo und Braunschweig aka BS.

Hallo ihr da draußen,
uns wurde gesagt, dass einige Menschen mit unseren Promomaterialen (überwiegend Stickern) im Raum Köln einiges angerichtet haben. Jünx, (oder auch Mädelz?) lasst es lieber sein. Rumstickern auf fremdes Eigentum = Sachbeschädigung = Straftat = Jede Menge Stress!
Was uns betrifft, haben wir zurzeit auf jeden Fall mehr als genug davon. Daher:

Ill Bill ist dieses Mal zwar ohne seinen Bruder Necro unterwegs, dafür bringt er aber Slaine von la Coka Nostra mit. Supportet werden die beiden von DJ Illegal von den Snowgoons.

Am 25.04.2009 fand die Finale der Jam Session in Köln statt.
Live on Stage waren auch Snaga und Fard mit neuen Titeln ihres gemeinsamen Releases Talion 45. DJ Rob Bankz, ITF World Champion, hat die gesamte Breite seines Werkens wieder gezeigt. Djing is an art!

En attendant l'arme appropriée pour le faire on s'ennuie pas et en tout cas ça fait un bail qu'on marque notre turf !
Nach einer nicht geringen Anzahl an gefeierten Partys (unter anderem Emmanuelle und French Kiss) sind wir zurück im Geschäft ;-). Bezüglich der Sommerkollektion, gibt es einige Neuigkeiten. Wenn alles klappt, Insha'Allah, bekommen wir schon sehr bald die Samples und danach wird los gehen. Das Beste wollen wir hoffen.
Weiterhin sind wir draußen auf unseren Laufstegen, den Streets, aktiv. Sehr gerne haben wir die von Rapspot* veranstaltete "Culture Week" unterstützt, cuz' it's for the people und am Samstag den 28. Februar werden wir bei der JamSession in Münster dabei sein.
In der Pipeline sind ebenfalls verschiedene Kollabos mit Tanzkombos... Yeah baby, we gonna stomp the yard...

Die Legende, die uns am Leben hält, die uns Kraft gibt, die uns sagt, dass irgendwann, alles so wie in unserer Märchenwelt sein wird. Urban Legends Clothing steht also für ein Lifestyle, dass sowohl der Realität als auch dem Streben nach dem Besseren Rechnung trägt.
